What is it

What is The Fly 56?

The Fly 56 is a 56-day outdoor challenge for anyone ready to pick something worth doing and give it a proper go.

Your challenge might be walking 56 kilometres, riding 280, fishing eight different waters or spending 56 intentional hours outside. It can be a first step, a serious stretch or something you take on with a mate or team.

You choose the goal. We’ll help with the plan. Over eight weeks, you’ll get practical prompts to keep moving, check in and stay connected — and create a fundraising page to help The Fly Program to support men’s mental fitness.

No daily streaks. No public oversharing. No need to be an athlete. Just one goal. 56 days. And a good reason to finish.

Not sure where to start?

Just answer these questions

We’ll recommend two or three challenges that fit your interests, current activity and available time.

Make it your kind of hard

Pick a level that asks something of you without asking too much.

Start Here

A realistic first challenge if you’re new, returning to activity or short on time.

Go Further

A stronger goal if you already get outside occasionally and want something to work towards.

The Big One

A significant challenge that needs preparation, consistency and a sensible plan.

You can adjust your target if work, weather, injury or life gets in the way.
Changing the plan isn't quitting. It's part of seeing it through.

How it works

Step 1: Pick IT

Choose a ready-made challenge or set an outdoor goal of your own.

Follow a simple eight-week progression suited to your starting point.
Create your page, set a target and tell people why you’re giving it 56 days.
Track progress and receive one practical prompt each week.

Invite a mate, colleague or family member — or build a team.

Reach your cumulative target or complete your final challenge by Day 56.
Thank the people who backed you and help more men access the program.

What you'll get

When you join The Fly 56, we’ll give you:

Men In Flight

Eight weeks. Eight useful ideas.

Practical, not preachy

No lectures. No expectation that you share anything private.

Week 1 · Start

Choose the goal, know why it matters and make a realistic plan.

Week 2 · GIVE THANKS

Notice the people and opportunities helping you keep going.

Week 3 · Look

Pay attention to where you are instead of moving through it on autopilot.

Week 4 · Listen

Take a mate outside and give the conversation your attention.

Week 5 · Check in

Notice your energy, mood and body. Adjust the plan when you need to.

Week 6 · Breathe

Use a simple breathing practice to settle your attention and recover.

Week 7 · Stay present

Focus on today’s effort rather than everything still ahead.

Week 8 · Do it

Finish, reflect and choose one useful habit to carry forward.

Do it for more than yourself

Your challenge gives you a reason. Your fundraising gives someone else the same opportunity.

Money raised through The Fly 56 helps The Fly Program provide outdoor mental fitness programs for men doing it tough — including access through the Scholarship Fund.

You don’t need a perfect story or a huge network. Start with why you chose the challenge. Ask the people who know you. Keep them updated as you go.

Choose a fundraising target

$560

A strong first target.

$1,950

The recommended individual target.

$3,900

Take it on together

Some goals are easier to begin — and harder to walk away from — when someone else is involved.

The Fly 56

With a mate or family

Choose the same challenge, set separate goals, or simply join each other for part of the 56 days.
The Fly 56

As a team

Combine your hours or kilometres and work towards a shared target such as 560 Hours Outside or Move 2,800.
The Fly 56

At work

Build a workplace team, hold one shared activity each week and ask the organisation to match what the team raises.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to do something every day?
No. The Fly 56 runs for 56 days, but your plan should fit around work, family, weather and recovery. You can complete shorter activities during the week and longer ones on weekends.
No. It’s the easiest place to start, but you can choose another ready-made challenge or set your own.
No. Choose a challenge suited to where you are now. Start smaller, build steadily and seek professional health advice if you have an injury, health concern or have been inactive for a long time.
Time you deliberately set aside to be outdoors — not the walk from the car to the office. Walking, riding, running, fishing, camping, hiking, paddling, exploring and sitting somewhere quiet can all count.
Yes. Take it on with a mate, family member, club, community group or workplace team.
Fundraising is a core part of The Fly 56. It gives the challenge a reason beyond yourself and helps more men access The Fly Program. We’ll provide a page, templates and practical prompts to make asking easier.
Change it. A sensible adjustment is better than pushing through an injury or giving up completely. The goal is consistent effort, not proving something at your own expense.
Yes. You decide what you share. You never need to post personal mental health information publicly.
No. The Fly 56 is an outdoor activity and fundraising campaign with practical mental fitness prompts. It does not replace professional mental health support.

Pick something worth doing.

Give it 56 days. Bring someone if you can. Raise what you can.
We’ll help with the rest.
